The keynote address at the Diabetes UK South East Region Volunteer Conference held in October was "Diabetes & COVID-19 – Understanding the association between diabetes and severe COVID-19" and presented by Dr John Dennis of the University of Exeter Medical School. The key findings from Dr Dennis's presentation are summarised here:

• Although diabetes increases risk of severe COVID-19, most people with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes are in low risk categories
• Diabetes features do matter – good blood glucose control is important
• Further research for people with diabetes needed:
